The trail first starts out along an old road. It then continues through the forest, leading to this boulder field and the headwall to the lakes.

I've wanted to go to Welsh Lakes in the Purcell Mountains for years. I'd always wanted to scramble the easiest peaks and see the larches. But the weather never cooperated. Snowing before the larches turned. The peaks themselves are boulder ascents that I wouldn't want to do in fresh snow, so then it would be too late to go. This year I gave up and headed out on September long weekend. Before the larches turned, but at least I could finally see the area and ascend the peaks I wanted.

I set off after work on Friday and drove all the way to the trailhead that evening. Reaching it around 9:30pm. Somewhat to my surprise two other vehicles were set up car camping as well. I woke up around 8am the next morning, and packed up to set off.
