Trail head. The trail goes up along the bank, then crosses the river, and in another little bit meets the old road.

You can ascend The Judge as a single day ascent, but why not camp with the larches? It was too lovely an area not to stay there overnight.

I've had this on my fall list for many many years, but it has always snowed up high before the larches turned the last two years. I didn't want to climb the peak in the snow so I didn't go. This year, the snow had held off in this area long enough to get one larch weekend in. It was amazing.
